Index to Summer Cruise
Day 2, 3, 4 – Lymington – Weymouth
Day 1 – Hamble – Yarmouth

There was a fair amount of do we or don’t we this morning. Wind was from the North and was being funnelled down the Hamble river making it sound quite howling outside. Leaving the dock is always the most difficult decision when you start a long cruise. But with the wind behind us going down the Hamble and Southampton water if felt like an easy start. Our plan was to go to Yarmouth today and then tomorrow West to Weymouth as the weather looked to be improving. From Gillian’s perspective this meant more sun and a lot less wind.

It was a pleasant sail although at times quite gusty – 18kts – on a beam reach and an ebb tide. We made good progress and having left at 1200 we were berthed at 1500. Berthing was not quite as simple as it usually is in Yarmouth as a result of a Northerly wind blowing through the harbour entrance and the tide which seemed to be taking us in – although it should have been ebbing!

The harbour tender came to our aid and pushed the boat onto the pontoon until Gillian was able to lasso the cleat from onboard. Once tied up we had a celebration glass of rose before walking into town for some essential shopping. Evening meal was on board. I know to the horror of some readers this was a tin of spam with cauliflower and potatoes. A bit like the Fray Bentos tinned pies – some of the old food is still the best food.
