Monday 3rd June

Car packed with crates and bags plus food for the next few days. Contacted the President’s Office in Alderney to let them know that we would be attending D-Day celebrations. The connection with the Island is from the time I commanded 30th Signal Regiment. We had a long term relationship with Alderney and for the millennium, whilst I was in command, we fabricated and transported a set of gates for the Church of St Anne out to Alderney to replace the ones that went missing during WW2. If you visit the church you will see a plaque commemorating the event.
It took a couple of hours to sort everything out on Purrfect Tale before we settled down to a glass of rose wine. A relaxing evening in Mercury Yacht Haven before setting off in the morning for Studland Bay. Forecast for tomorrow is kind for Gillian – light winds. I suspect it might be more of a motor than a sail.
