Extended Summer Cruise – 3rd June 2024 – 15th August

8th -10th July Lay Days Camaret Sur Mer

The day we arrived it poured with rain and blew like hell. We laid in till around 1000hrs then went to find somewhere that did coffee and croissants. We found a Creperie for lunch that did both savoury and sweet crepes. I ended up with a sardine sort of paste and a crepe – which whilst sounding a little unpleasant was in fact delicious. We were the last customers to leave after lunch – as we had no where else to go we lingered as long as we were able.

On the way back we dropped into the Church which I had visited on the outbound leg. It is one of those churches that does not matter if you are spiritual or not – but it exudes and air tranquility and peace.

That evening Andrew and Clement cooked another excellent meal and afterwards we spent the evening with a nice bottle of wine discussing how to fix world peace and repair the economy!
The following day the weather was marginally better – but not a huge amount! Around lunchtime we went for a walk along one of the GR routes, passing on route the inevitable WW2 fortifications. This particular peninsula overlook the approach to Brest and it looked as if this is where a number of anti-aircraft guns had been placed. The area was pock marked with shell holes from bombs that tried to neutralise them. The path along the coastline was stunning. And despite the weather the beaches looked enticing.

Over the past few days wherever we were we came across classic sailing boats – all of which were making there way to Brest for the big event in a couple of weekends time. Many were sail training ships with young people aboard – and mainly French.

We edged our way past this at 0230 in the morning

Sadly it was going to another night sail – I am definitely not gaining bonus points for sailing. The time of departure was 0230! Yep a mighty groan.
