Saturday 8th June – Monday 10th June -Lay Days in St Peter Port

Marina Costs. 2 nights Passport Escales – 2 nights @£45 – £90.

This was as far as Gillian was coming with me. She would rejoin the boat when I get back to St Peter Port around 12th July. We spent the 3 days wandering around the town, a bit of shopping, lots of eating and of course the odd bottle of wine or two! There is a lovely fish market on the other side of Victoria Harbour. For the best fish to have to arrive earlyish in the morning especially for Tuna. We were too late but picked up 1kg of mussels and 2 pieces of cod which Gillian baked in the oven on a low heat for around 10 minutes. Dex and Julia were also around for a couple of days before they went up to Beaucette Marina which is an old quarry with a spectacular entrance. The big benefit of Beaucette is that you have access to mains! We stayed in the outer harbour at St Peter Port and whilst there was water there was no electricity which meant putting on th engine for 30 mins 3 times a day.

We found a great laundary up the hill (everything is up a hill in St Peter Port) – Normandy Washeteria. I dropped off a bag of towels and clothes in the morning and they came back beautifully washed and folded. This meant that Gillian could leave her clothes out here rather than carrying them back to UK and out again.

The last day was spent preparing for the trip to Roscoff. I had looked at two options – Treguier or Roscoff. The advantage of Treguier was that it was only 55 miles whilst Roscoff was a further 20 miles – 4 more hours potentially. However I would eventually need to get to Roscoff as a stopping point on the way to L’Aberwrach. Looking ahead at the weather there is a frontal system coming in on Thursday so I could potentially be caught in Trequier for a few days. So I have bitten the bullet and am going for a 0430 reveille for a 0500 departure (0600CET) which will hopefully get me in for around 2000hrs tomorrow night as a worst case scenario.

I used the new on-line booking form that was downloadable from the marina office. This was sent off to Douane in Roscoff as well as the marina. I got a reply back from them giving me an appointment of 0900 the morning after I had arrived at the Ferry Port. Very civilised.

There was also a bit of maintenance to do on the boat before I left. Jack lines to fit as I was going by myself. The Sentinel Boat Monitor was playing up so that required contacting the service centre who tried to fix the problem remotely – not sure it has worked – and carefully keeping an eye in the batteries from which I had a couple of low voltage alarms. One at an inconvenient time of 0430 in the morning.

The sun is still shining but it is a little breezy. An early night before an early start.

Sunday Lunch at Sorento on the harbour front. Sunday art and craft fair was in full swing.
