Introduction.
The Royal Southern Yacht Club Cruising Section holds an annual summer cruise. Traditionally it is West Country and France on alternative years. This year for both Covid and Brexit reasons the challenge of going across to France was just too great. So it is back to Falmouth. Last year we did not get that far and only made it to Studland Bay which is outside of Poole. We had battled our way through the Needles in the new boat with the intention of making it to Portland – that was abandoned and we downed the anchor in Studland Bay – 20+kts over the bow – the anchor held although I must admit they were not exactly restful nights as we awaited the anchor alarm to go off – thankfully it did not. Our friends were more adventurous and left us at anchor at midnight as they headed out into the channel to get to Dartmouth. We made a retreat to the Solent for a week’s sailing. However this year the weather certainly for the first half is set fair. The aim to to get from Hamble to Falmouth (and back) via Lymington, Poole, Portland, Dartmouth, Salcombe, Plymouth, Fowey and finally Falmouth. There will also be a change of crew as Gillian returns early and I have Mark Spicer join me. So let our summer adventure begin.
